riomaggiore and via dell'amore {cinque terre pt. 5}

the "hike" between manarola and riomaggiore

is called "via dell'amore"

because it's covered in love graffiti

and padlocks with lovers' initials along the way

emily + annabelle = lovers :)

"i love you truly,

the "hike" was really more of just a walk

in a ton of cities

david wasn't there to sit

and i thought that was weird to write here

but it actually means

"david you are stupendous"

looks like everyone loves david

i don't blame them

we didn't have a lot of time for

the last city because we were trying to

catch a train in about 30 minutes

but, much like the other towns, it was adorable

ok so i'm going to try to upload

the rest of my italy photos

since i'm only going to get more and more

behind as i continue traveling

anyway the 4th city is manarola

this was the first city that we actually got to walk to:

on some beach rocks in between corniglia and manarola

we finally got to a town that

we could spend more time in

and finally HIKE to the next town

when we first got to the train station

we decided to not take the bus into town

and walk

and then we saw this

yes, there were that many ramp thingies

my legs were hurtinggggg

then we got to the little town and walked around

and saw a sign pointing to the marina!

so we followed it

turns out the marina is at the bottom of a cliff

so we had.. oh, about 5 million rocky steps to go down

about.. 1/4 of the steps to go down

i think this was my favorite town

because of the marina

and now.. the news:

british airways is going on strike this week

david's flight got cancelled

and while there was a moment of panic

he's now coming a day earlier (!)

and we're meeting in paris on monday :D

new countdown: 1/2

ps - i just arrived in nice a few hours ago

after 11 hours in transit

and i can't wait to explore tomorrow (:

vernazza {cinque terre pt. 2}

these feet pictures may all look the same

either way, onto cinque terre town #2:

this is the most famous of the towns because there's

a little harbor where people take photos of the boats

with the colorful houses

but the boats were all gone

because it's winter and too cold to go out

i was obsessed when i was a baby

& my sister tells me about it all the time

so i took this for her (:

the town

maybe not the safest place to jump

but annabelle is a pro

with their pesto pizza

the region of liguria is famous for its pesto

pretty good imitation

if i do say so myself

three more cities to go

monterosso {cinque terre pt. 1}

even though it was the weekend before finals

and i still needed to write two more 10 page papers

and study for my italian final

i went to cinque terre with my friend emily & annabelle

was this a good idea?

hell yeah it was!

(for those of you who don't know

le cinque terre

are 5 small beach towns

which you can walk to one by one

or take the train between

{which we had to do for the first 2 cities because 2 trails were closed because of rock slides :(})

the mediterranean!

i couldn't get over how BLUE and CLEAR it all was
