The Holiday issue of The Violet is out today and I'm really excited to have contributed a few pieces and photos-- one from my trip to Munich and one where I teamed up with my girl, Kellee, about nail art (that girl is talented).

Now that I've become a Contributing Editor, I've loved the strange combination of routine and surprise (that is, the opportunity to contribute regularly but also the surprise of how cohesive and unique each issue is). This issue is no exception-- I'm particularly loving Molly's piece on dumplings of the world and Carmyn's beautiful photography. I love my Violet family.

The Fall issue of The Violet is here, with "Four Soups for Fall" by yours truly. (I'm obsessed with the apple butternut squash.) I've loved working with these gals and am nothing but proud of what they've put together.

Even though our treehouse stay was back in May and the story is already out, I like to go through the photos and pretend I'm still there.

I've added some outtakes to Facebook, if you'd like to pretend, too.

It's here! It's here!

The gorgeous, French-inspired summer issue of the Violet is out today. I'm really excited/honored to have my treehouse story included.

It's so funny. This time last year, I was in the French countryside and this issue brings me right back.

spring 2012

It's here!! I was so excited that I flipped through every page to see the collection of beautiful stories and photographs-- but I can't wait to sit down and just read through everything. This is The Violet's 1-year anniversary issue and it's so amazing to see how the magazine has grown since last year.

I have two little tutorials in the "Create" section about terrariums and messages in bottles. (You should see my desk at work right now-- it's like a greenhouse).

I hope you enjoy the issue! Now that it's here, it feels like Spring has officially begun.

The winter issue of The Violet is out today! These past few weeks working with the Violet ladies have been wonderful and it's amazing to see how all of our hard work has paid off.

Molly's narrative on eggs and Ashlee and Camilla's brunch spread are my favorites. My book, music and film recommendations can be found on page 23; as well as some of my favorite photos of the Pacific sky on 26 and 77.

Check it out! And Happy Monday!

the violet

July 22, 2011
It seems ironic that the day after I write this post, my "Do Something That Scares You" article comes out with The Violet's summer issue.

I wrote to Camilla, asking her if she thought it'd still be a good idea to publish the article even though au pairing didn't work out. This is what she said,

"I'm so sorry to hear that it didn't work out - but you know I still think it's incredibly brave that you tried. I'm sure you learned something from it...and that's worth everything

I'm going to go ahead and keep the article in because it's a good story - and it's your story. You did something that scared you....

It's not about the end result - its about the effort. Right?"

Right.

Merriam Webster defines "adventure" like this: an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks.

I took the risk, I did something that scared me. And now I have a story to tell.

So, without further ado, I present you with the The Violet Summer 2011 issue. Lucky for me on French time, I've been able to go through the entire magazine already and I am in love. I'm honored to be part of such a positive, inspiring collection.

PS - Thank you for all of your kind words and support. Really, I feel so lucky.
PPS - I'm on page 69!
