inside this box

cake box
Is a cake... or, was a cake. Our friend Aya brought this little dessert over from Japan even though it's a German cake (it's name looks German, anyway...). After seeing the box I never would have expected a cake to be inside, but sure enough, out came a little roll cake with layers similar to the mille crepe. It's called a Baumkuchenturm and it tastes like a dense, sweet sponge cake. It's also perfect for a mid-night study break (from this fantastic book) accompanied by Earl Grey, my beloved millefoglies, and the best roommates I could ask for.

P.S. - Thanks for your sweet comments on my last post! I'll be working on making Jenna's tuna casserole soon to do a recipe post :)
