the bridge to nowhere

September 27, 2012
Untitled
After a day at the beach, we took a sunset bike ride to "the bridge to no where." From what I gathered, it was a project left unfinished once funds ran out. We took advantage of the abandoned bridge and sat along the railing to sip $3-buck-chuck (don't get me started) and look out onto the marshes.

We sat well past sunset and continued to eat beets, goat cheese, bread, and even more wine in the dark. Once we finished, we took a joyride through downtown Charleston-- stopping every once in a while to refill the plastic cups we'd been toting around and reusing.

The small, quiet streets felt like an eerie ghost town that only came to life as we rampantly rode through. The night was young and unexpecting, but the bridge to nowhere was just the beginning.

weekend

April 23, 2012
dolores park and rhea's cafe goodies

Another exhausting weekend, but in the best kind of way. The weather was very un-San Francisco: it was sunny to the point that I got my sandal-tan back after only being in the sun for a few hours. Dolores Park was filled with people lazing and basking.

raiza and bike

I finally got my new (to me) bike. Cristie was a sweetheart during the whole search process-- answering my bike-noob questions and giving advice over the span of a few months. My first trip was to my sister's house. Raine, Raiza, and I are all planning to take a little bike trip together soon.

orange carrot ginger soup + yerba mate milk tea

I got to try a lot of new things this weekend like orange-ginger carrot soup and yerba mate milk tea (both are amazing).

boba guys + banana sugar coconut shrimp
party decorations

I spent a lot of time with Amy and her Joshua, getting the last 3 milk teas of the house from Boba Guys and hosting a pad thai party (more on this later, of course).

almost berlin

April 29, 2010
even though i almost spent an entire week in potsdam and berlin with david, i hardly took any photos. i think my excuse was that i'd be coming back two more times before heading back home, so i guess i'll try to take more photos then. these two photos are one of the rare occasions where i did bring my camera. we went to a big flea market-esque place in berlin to find david a bike (success). i didn't get anything, but a nice man gave me a sample of scented lavender.

now, onto photos of the uk...

daniel

November 15, 2009
yesterday morning my nephew, daniel, came to campus and we biked all over.

i thought i'd surprised him by taking him up to hoover tower...
turns out he's terrified of heights.

went to the rodin sculpture garden in memorial court.

snuck him into the sunken diamond and maples pavilion (baseball and basketball facilities).

overall great day with the nephy-poo despite overcast skies and some drizzling.
love him.

Catching Up (Nauplion)

Nauplion

i think that one of the reasons nauplion was my favorite city was because it was my first look at greece without athens. we were at a port, it wasn't dirty, and it was beautiful just being there.

that being said, one of the first things the girls and i saw when
we went exploring was this gigantic ship.

walking down a little further,
i guess this might be their "boardwalk"

dozens of cute little ships docked alongside

beautiful, clear, blue water

one night, my friend chris and i decided to explore the town and get away from the drunkies for a little while. the first thing we went to was this carnival. we went on the ride that i'm pictured with.. and we were the only two people (besides workers) there. i picked this ride, which was actually really fun.

chris picked this game,
which we both sucked at.

our second day there, hadley and i decided to rent bikes and ride around the city. well, originally we wanted vespa's but we didn't have international licenses so we just got bikes.

biking out onto the pier

we found a cute little playground

we biked along most of the city, i think, and decided to see how far we could go past the boardwalk. when we explored, we found this cliff-side path and got to ride next to the ocean.

i guess this post is mostly pictures.. i don't have a lot of stories to tell but nauplion was the most beautiful city to me. while we were here our class took a field trip to the mycenae and epidauros ruins (which i might post later), but for the mean time, i'm just going to try to post at all since i'm sucking at it so much.

i already uploaded photos from one night out in nauplion where i tested my night photography, so i guess my next update will be... SPARTA. (<- lame attempt at emphasizing sparta, even though it wasn't a very interesting city..)
