tragedy at home

September 9, 2010
Earlier tonight I was at my sister's house helping out with my nieces and my brother-in-law came and said that there was just an explosion. We turned on the news and two houses in San Bruno, 10 minutes from where I live, were on fire. The fire was enormous- at least "100 feet in the air." At first no one knew what happened and a lot of people thought a plane had crashed. Thankfully it wasn't a crash, but instead a PG & E gas line ruptured. I'm not sure what's worse. The city called for 25 fire engines for help and has declared a state of emergency. It's now several hours later and the fires have spread and consumed at least 53 houses and damaged at least 120 others. One person has died. Tons of others have 3rd degree burns. I used to go to church up the street from where this happened and it's just so heartbreaking and unbelievable. Nothing like this has ever been so real or so close to my everyday life. So many homes lost. I'm just praying and hoping for comfort for all of the families effected.

Don't take anything- not even a single moment- for granted.
