scenes from the road
January 6, 2011
Just reminiscing about our road trip a few weeks ago. All of these photos are from Oregon-- except the last two. We truly had the weirdest weather. It rained almost the entire way up through Oregon, it hardly ever rained in Seattle, and then it felt like a torrential downpour on the way back down through Oregon. We drove through "severe weather warning" roads down to Ashland, and then through more snow heading into California.
Despite all of our crazy weather-- I really enjoyed the drive. I think I might even have enjoyed it a little extra because of the weather (when I didn't feel like I was about to die). Oregon is such a beautiful state to drive through. Days of driving can get tiring, but when you're in good company, it's not so bad.

voodoo

We loved Voodoo the second we stepped out of our car into the parking lot. A parking lot has never smelt so good. Since it was a Tuesday morning the donut shop wasn't crowded at all so we picked a few donuts to have for breakfast and a few more to bring back to my cousin in Seattle. They are so original and creative with their donuts! I had a mint chocolate donut and David's was shaped like a man, with raspberry "blood" filling. There were also tons with different cereals on top, holiday flavors (apple cider!) and some really fun shapes. The woman who helped us was really sweet and gave some great recommendations... nothing was overpriced like you might imagine! All in all, Voodoo definitely lived up to its reputation. A quiet Portland morning perfect for some quality time with fun and delicious donuts.*

an evening stroll in portland
December 15, 2010
We arrived in Portland late Monday afternoon and went to the room we rented through AirBnB in the Hawthorne district. We walked downtown, passing many houses with holiday lights, and had delicious, affordable food at Rice Junkies. Hawthorne is pretty much a bigger, longer Haight Street-- which I don't mind at all. So many vintage shops and cute stores. We walked back to the little apartment before heading to the Laurelhurst theater for a $3 showing of Easy A. Our room hosts, Jack and Elizabeth were super nice and they had a cute, little black cat named Cubby. We love Portland.
