March 19, 2010

this is pretty old
but it's how i feel right now

3/4 days.

happy march

March 1, 2010
and i mean, happy.

i've never been a fan of new year's resolutions- for me, it's a little overwhelming to make such a big change for the span of a year. i like small, progressive steps. so i think i'm going to start having monthly resolutions. some small, little goals (because it always feels good to check things off of lists) and then some bigger, more personal resolutions. care to join?

my little goals for march are:

1. go inside the santa maria novella church.
i've only been living 2 seconds away from it for the past 2 months.
2. go to the academia and the bargello museums.
3. climb to the top of the duomo on a sunny day.
4. go to dante's house.
5. find appropriate presents for family and friends.

my one, personal resolution:

not to let others' decisions affect my happiness

i naturally invest a lot of myself into other people
which sometimes backfires because i then hold them to a certain standard
(which is both unfair to them and to me).
this month (and hopefully long after), i'd like to be happy
as long as the people i care about are happy.
they may make decisions that i personally would not choose,
but we aren't the same people.
{i struggle with this often}

i unfortunately don't remember where i read this earlier this week, but,
"for every 60 seconds you spend angry,
you lose a minute of happiness"

i just have to keep that in mind.

i need somewhere to put my heart
i don't think, i don't think, it's a state of mind
i need somewhere to put my heart
they sent it here, without an instruction guide

it's been a long time coming
i'm waiting to see
why this starts working
when you're so close to me

but in the mean time
i'll keep it like it's mine
and maybe i will see
i have somewhere to put my heart

Running Away

October 4, 2009

this weekend i left school on thursday night and came to santa cruz for the weekend. i was going to go see paramore play friday night, but the concert was postponed because the lead singer has laryngitis.

i feel like i had a ton of time to get stuff done, but no motivation to actually do it. i don't know where the weekend went. i'm trying to play catch up now, but i still need to drive back to school.

whenever i leave santa cruz i always get this weird, uncomfortable sadness. it happened all the time when i was a freshmen. i thought that now, since circumstances are different, it might not be the same, but i still feel it. it brought me to tears before and i'm hoping it doesn't do the same now.

i feel like i need to get away from whatever this is that's tugging at me, and i need to get my shit together.

The Mean Reds

September 30, 2009

I feel like I have a lot to say, but no words to say it with.

Lately I've been having the mean reds, as coined by a certain Holly Golightly. It's when you're afraid of something, but you don't know what. The song that Audrey plays in this scene, Moon River, is one of my favorites. It helped me get through freshmen year and I may be taking advantage of it again this year.

I know this isn't really travel related and that I've done a bad job at catching up with updates, but I think that my wanderlust is more than physical. Sometimes, my mind just wants to be in other places.
